What is Art? Degenerative Art Research Paper
1. What did the paintings/works have in common that made them “degenerate”?
Many of the paintings were modern art, which included bold colors, abstract premises and paintings which portrayed similarly odd and abstract subjects. 2. How has history played out in regard to the value of these works–aesthetically, monetarily, and their influence on American Art? During the progression over the past fifty years, society’s opinion of art has greatly evolved to tolerate and appreciative many varieties, origins and mediums of art. Loud, colorful abstract graphics are one of the most popular modern art forms at the present time, which stands in significant contrast to the favored “classical” techniques sought after during Hitler’s reign. Time can also play an important role in determining the value of a given art piece—take Van Gogh for instance, who managed only to sell a single painting while still alive. One of the primary reasons for their value is due to the fact that works are reflective of the period culture and describe the story of the particular point in a way unable to be replicated in a textbook. Art is expression, and we are products of our environment. | Assignment Links
